A cult classic! YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Complexion Highlighter

8 Hour Cream. Nars Orgasm Blush. Chanel No 5. Shu Uemura Curlers.

What do they all have in common? They’re all iconic beauty classics which have stood the test of time.  And today I’m reviewing another trusted classic which I had actually never tried before until last year! Yes team, today I’m talking about the legendary Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat highlighter pen.

This is apparently the UK’s number one selling luxury beauty product with one Touche Eclat being sold across the world every ten seconds. Ten seconds! By the time you finish reading this, about 10 more people will have bought one.

What does it do?

This is where a lot of people get confused. Generally, its a highlighter pen, to be used to illluminate to the face. A lot of people assume its an under-eye concealer – its much much more than that!

I’m not a fan of telling people what to do with their own makeup though – to me, applying Touche Eclat is like eating a Cadbury Creme Egg – there are so many different ways to apply it and everyone has their own way of doing it!

How do I apply mine?

The beauty of this product is that you can apply it pretty much anywhere you want a touch of radiance.

Most people apply it along the cheekbone, under the eyes and along the eyebrow arch. It’s meant to conceal tired areas – so it can be applied anywhere where shadows fall – the corners of your nose, edges of your mouth.

As a big contour fan, I like to dot it down the nose, along the cupids bow and along the jaw to sculpt and shape my face.

Here’s a little diagram!

Others also pat it on the eyelids and into any wrinkles – think about anywhere you want to reflect the light.

The Touche Eclat I have is in shade 1, but they come in a range of shades to suit most skin tones.

Mine is a peach-pink coloured lightweight cream which can be patted into the skin easily

It’s not sticky or heavy and you can’t feel it when you wear it. Perfect for even oily skinned gals like me.

Here’s what it looks like when striped on – serious war paint eh?

And the finished result!

A luminous complexion with subtle highlighting to awaken and enliven dark and flat areas. I love the finish – it’s 3D without being too shimmery or glittery.

The Touche Eclat retails for £25 – I bought mine in March and it’s still clicking! I use it after work for that work-to-bar transformation and it adds an instant bit of pretty to my dull skin!

Im tempted to buy a darker one too so that I can contour the two together. I would say that it’s not a heavy duty concealer – whilst it helps to mask imperfections and eye bags, I need a darker colour with a slightly thicker consistency to conceal my demons!

Touche Eclat is a highlighter, therefore it should be a touch lighter than your actual skintone. This means its not really ideal to conceal angry spots or dark eyebags.

You can shop the YSL range at Harvey Nichols here– I also love the Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation and also the Volupte Lipstick which come in amazing-looking cases oh and also … I could really go on forever – check out the range and tell me what you like!
