Beauty 2013: A Face Value Beauty Blog Summary

Another year gone, another hundred products tried and tested. I dread to think how much I spend on my beauty habit but hey, let’s think positive – at least I can tell you guys what’s super and what sucks!  (whether you’ll listen and/or care is another story..)

And that’s what today’s post is about – my favourite, and least favourite products of 2013!

Here’s a little montage, just to remind you – but read on and see who the real stars were!

Best Foundation

There were two that stood out for me this year. And they’re both very different!

The L’Oreal Eau De Teint is honestly sublime – it’s really grown on me.

It’s a unique texture which goes on like silky emulsion and dries like a matte skin stain. (Yes, I know that sounds gross, but it’s GREAT.)

The result is a really natural looking finish that stays reasonably matte and lasts ages!

Next up, the BareMinerals Ready SPF20 Foundation was a welcome addition to my collection. Great coverage and great finish.

I adored the original bareminerals foundation but I spilled the powder EVERYWHERE because I am clumsier than a clumsy bear – especially in the morning! (Also – I’m very shortsighted, so imagine a clumsy bear with the eyesight of a mole)

This compact version of the Bareminerals foundation was fab- easy to apply and much, much tidier to use! My table top thanks you!

Best Lipstick

For me – this year was allll about the lip crayon.

No7 High Shine Lip Crayons were my favourite in terms of colour, packaging and intensity but the Soap and Glory crayon also ticked all the boxes

The best colour this year, has to go to Gay Geranium from No7 – it’s orange, it’s bold, it actually works on my skintone – I love it!

I really wouldn’t have picked this up normally but I’m glad I found it.

Moral of the story? We should all try something new on our lips this year. (makeup-wise obvs, keep it clean you minxes!!)

Best Haircare Product

Again, I can’t pick one, so I’m going to name two. It’s ma blog, I do what I want.

The L’Oreal EverStrong Conditioner – which I bought three times and has my hair feeling like a LION.

I cannot harp on about this enough – I love it, I need it – I stock up everytime it’s on 3 for 2! (yes, my cupboard is stuffed full of shampoo, I hang my beautiful head of hair in shame)

Schwarzkopf got2b oil-licious hair oil

Oh – and the got2b Oilicious which is an absolute barg. Great value for money and it actually works!

You can use it as a serum, a mask, a hair-tamer – mainly for anything that needs a touch of softness

And because it’s only a couple of pounds, you don’t feel bad pump-pump-pumping it away!

Best Eye Product

This is a huuuuge category for me – so it was very hard to narrow it down.

I think I’m going to go with the Oriflame Beauty Eyebrow Kit, mainly because I’ve FINALLY found an eyebrow shade to match my hair.

And also, largely because it’s a cheaper version of the Benefit Browzings. I love a bargain, me.

The Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara was also a close second. (I’m into brows this year, it seems)

Least Favourite Product Of 2013

The one that everyone loves to hear about!

It’s not that I didn’t liiike anything (cop out!) but I just didn’t get on with the Rimmel Apocalips

Yes- they give great colour, but the colour just gets EVERYWHERE (clumsy bear analogy, remember?)  That, and they taste like melted down barbie dolls.

Face Value Newcomer

I use it in a FAST-FACE/Natural look tutorial here

I’m a bit in love with this CC cream. Like a BB cream, but with a better finish and better coverage. And it’s not too expensive either!

Apparently there’s DD creams in store too, so maybe 2014 will finally see some hilarious boob jokes make an appearance on Face Value Beauty Blog.

I’m kidding of course. None of my jokes are ever hilarious…

And that’s it for 2013! What were your favourite and least favourite products?

Have you tried any of the above?

Have a Happy New Year everyone – hope you’re all having a great night tonight -whether you’re out with your friends, or staying in with your loved ones, have a perfect (and beautiful) new years eve!
