Arm Yourself Against Aging: Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Range

Today’s post starts with a big sigh. A really big sigh. Why? I am imminently broaching that time in my life where my skin cell regeneration rate starts to head the other way. Yes, my friends, I have boarded that ship – and it’s destination? Aging. Boo!

As I creep further and further towards 30, the days of being excited for birthdays are no more. Okay, I’m practically, basically, compleetely lying here – I will forever love birthdays because it means I get presents and lots of cake but you can see where my dramatic feeling-sorry-for-myself monologue is going right? Aging is inevitable.

However, it’s not over until it’s over – I’m a fighter. Obviously fighting in spirit, not physically (Face Value Fight Club any one??) and I’ve been meaning to step up my skincare routine for a while now.

Although I already follow the holy trinity of ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’, the steps for moisturising past the age of 25 becomes  “Serum & Moisturiser” and then “Serum & Moisturiser” becomes “Serum & Face Cream & Eye Cream”. Yup, that’s right – my new routine is now “Wash, Tone, Serum, Eye Cream, Face Cream” (and when I’m feeling like I could spend EVEN more time on my face, I sometimes throw “Pre-Cleanse” into the mix! Ker-azy.)

I’ve gone from three-step to six step!! Oh lord, growing up is hard work.

Thankfully, in honour of my next birthday coming up, Boots have sent me over a full Anti-Aging skincare set by Nivea. Can I get a hoo-ray?

Nivea Cellular Anti Aging Skincare Moisturiser Serum Beauty Review

This is the new Nivea Cellular Anti-Age range! There’s two moisturisers, a serum and an eye cream – it’s always good to use products from the same range as they are meant to complement and boost each other. Let’s take a closer look shall we?

What to start with first?

In terms of your skincare routine order, serum comes before moisturiser. This is because serum has a higher potency of ingredients and is designed to get straight in to the skin. The molecules in moisturiser are larger than those in serum and if you put it on first, the active ingredients in the serum will have a harder time trying to penetrate into your skin. Give your serum a helping hand and put it on first!

My current serum is the lovely Antipodes Hosanna Plumping Serum but I’m always up for trying something new. (I’m talking in beauty terms, obviously – there are plenty of things I DO NOT need to try. Let’s not lower the tone by going there eh?)

MOVING ON, the Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Serum is lovely. It’s easily absorbed and has a silky finish, not quite as silicone-y as a makeup primer but along those lines. No wonder Nivea suggest that it makes a great make up base! Also – one pump is PERFECT to cover my entire face (I appreciate fine details like this..!)

The Cellular serum instantly smooths out my imperfections and teeny tiny lines – it’s similar to the air-brush finish that a primer can bring, but without the panic that it’s blocking your pores!

Next up in the ring, we have the Cellular Anti-Age face creams.

Biggest revelation? I was really surprised with how easily absorbed the night cream was! (I’ve used the Nivea Pure & Natural night cream before for Combination skin but I found it a bit greasy and my skin was oily 10 minutes after application.) This Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Night cream was easy to apply, not heavy in the slightest and I didn’t wake up with oily skin! Gold star.

It was the same story with the Cellular Day cream, and I’m glad that it has SPF15 – SPF is the KEY WEAPON for battling anti-aging and I always forget to put it on! Given that I’m like a zombie robot when I perform my morning skincare routine, having SPF in my daily moisturiser is a great way to make sure I get the daily protection I need!

My favourite part other than the light texture is the smell! They both have that lovely, familiar Nivea scent – it’s like clean cotton and baby powder in one, I love it. I find it so comforting that it’s an absolute dream to slather this cream over my face and neck.

Face Value Tip: Don’t forget your neck! It needs looking after too – no point having a beautiful youthful face if you’ve got a neck which looks like turkey balls (sorry, that’s gross isn’t it?). Apply moisturising cream all the way down to your collarbone at least!

Finally, the Cellular Anti-Age Eye Cream. I’ve been using the Simple Eye Roll-on for a month, it’s great for soothing tired eyes in the morning, but I wanted something with a bit more bang for attacking the fine lines under my eyes (which are becoming increasingly noticeable to only me and myself alone)

This Nivea Eye Cream is light enough for the delicate eye area but I haven’t seen any dramatic changes in the week or so that I’ve been using it. I haven’t seen any cures but I guess the moisture is good anti-aging prevention at least. I’m going to keep using it though, I have faith!

Overall Thoughts?

This is a very decent range and perfect for people new to Anti-Aging products or people who don’t want to spend heaps of cash on their skincare.

The textures are really good – light and fresh – not heavy and claggy, so fellow combination oily gals can use this as well. It’s also meant to have had good reviews from sensitive-skinned scribes out there too..

My only concerns were that the creams didn’t come across as “powerful” enough. You know when you see a skin product and you think – wow, that’s going to do some seeerious business? I mean, yes, the Nivea Cellular range has Hyaluronic Acid and yes, I trust Nivea as a brand but the lack of chat about powerful acids/resurfacers and the natural, fresh smell makes me think that it’s not going to be able to deal with Anti-Aging past 35

Who knows though? It’s not necessarily a bad thing – I’m moving further away from strong chemicals in skincare and I’ve only been using the Nivea Cellular range for a week or so anyway. I know I’m alllll about the instant gratification, but even an impatient only-child like me can understand that some things take time.

Doubts aside, this Nivea Cellular range is my current daily-use range and I will definitely continue to use it for at least another month or until I get distracted by another new product range! I really like the textures, the feel and the smell – I just want to see some results now!!

Good news – the Nivea Cellular range is currently on offer1/3 off at Boots! You could buy it for yourself, oooh – or even for Mother’s Day!!! Cripes, that reminds me, I need to get a Mother’s Day present sorted! And perhaps Boots can help me out again here… click here to see their Mother’s Day special offers.

Have you armed yourself for the battle against Aging?

Do you use any other Nivea products? Don’t you just LOVE the scent?!

And how many steps are there in YOUR skincare routine? Three? Six? ….More than six?
