What I Wore To Work: Block Colour Black & Burgundy

A dark mood is upon me. Partly due to the come-down from the bank holiday weekend but mostly down to the fact that the rain has returned. Oh yeah, and Film4 has been showing Twilight films all weekend. That too.

I always find myself choosing clothes in line with my mood and today I’ve gone for some sort of “minimalist gothic grumpus”. Yes, today HAS been a grumpy day – I’ve been walking to the tube every day this week in that type of rain which isn’t enough to justify an umbrella but is enough to seriously get on my grill – weak rain is the despair of all glasses wearing girls out there!

I’m mourning the lack of summer sun but all over black can be quite severe. Today’s dress has a flash of burgundy to help to break up the black and add a bit of shape to what is, essentially, a large sack. (albeit a very comfortable one)

Dress by New Look

Necklace: Primark

This long sleeved dress is a great choice for work because it covers up enough skin whilst still looking stylish. The shape is perfect for swishing around the office and still looks very smart with tights or bare legged.

The loose shape means that it’s INCREDIBLY comfortable, but it still retains an expensive, modern edge because of the block colour and the crepe material. It’s not normally something I’d go for but…. the price! THE PRICE!

How much was the dress?

Can you believe it – I picked this New Look dress up in the sale rack for £7!

SEVEN POUNDS – I really didn’t need to think twice did I?

Style notes: Wear this with heels and a blazer for work, or with a longline cardigan and ballet flats on the weekend.

I love that this dress covers all manner of body sins – perfect for when you’re going out for a big lunch!

It’s not all doom & gloom.

Break up the sombre colours with a flash of bright lipstick or a statement necklace.

This intricate feather/shield necklace is from Primark and breaks up the horizontal lines which will make broad shoulders look even broader.

If I’d worn my hair down, I could have gone for a more delicate necklace but with hair up, a necklace is a must otherwise my head looks tiny!! TINY.

What do you think of this tunic? A dreary sack? Or perfect for these summer showers?

What influences your wardrobe choice in the morning? The weather? Your mood?

And, more importantly, are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?! (Team Jacob, obvs)

I totally relate to your weather-based grumpiness! I have a 20 minute walk to work which is delightful on pleasant days – this week = not so much! Also, £7 for that dress is acomplete bargain. Excellent purchase!p.s. Team Jacob too.

So glad I'm not the only one (on both weather and Twilight related matters). x
