As I mentioned in my post, Downtime, there’s been a bit of a silence because I’ve been moving flat, but also because I’ve been on holiday! Yay for holidays!
Every time I go on holiday I always keep an eye out for beauty buys which aren’t available in the UK. I’ve brought back velcro hair slides from Hong Kong, P2 Lip Peeler from Berlin, Princess lipsticks from Malaysia but the ABSOLUUUUTE epitome of ‘beauty not available in the UK’ can very easily be summed up in one example. That example, my dear readers, is Sephora.
First things first, I need to get this off my chest – WHY DO WE NOT HAVE A SEPHORA IN THE UK?!?! More exclamation marks needed.
I remember we used to have one back in like 2002 but this was before my age of makeup enlightenment and all I bought from there were those bath foam capsules shaped as dolphins and hearts – which were quite useless – HOW NAIVE I WAS.
Flashforward another decade and this time, when I encountered Sephora in an out-of-town Portuguese shopping mall….I was prepared!! (and no longer interested in those bath capsules)
An hour in Sephora AND during the sale season – does it get any better?! There was reduced Benefit, reduced Lancome and eventually, poor Mr FV reduced to boredom.
Shall we see the spoils of my shopping trip!?
First up, some much needed basics. I was in the market for a small highlighting brush for cheekbone dusting and down-the-center-of-the-nose details.
Most blush brushes are too poofy, I needed something which would let me generously sweep powder, but in an accurate and contained manner. Undecided on which one to get, I bought two – and they turned out to be buy one get one free!
Guerlain Rouge G.
Next up, I hit the sale section and came away with this incredible Rouge G de Guerlain lipstick which is like a silver bullet, complete with mirror compact.
The orange red hue is actually surprisingly wearable during the day but its not as moisturizing as I’d have hoped it’s price tag suggests! Full price, it’s 50 euros but I managed to find it for 25….. bargain!
I love the colour, it wears really well and is relatively long lasting – but it doesn’t deliver much more on the comfort factor than a regular high street lipstick. The unique, quality casing more than makes up for it – it is beautiful and I really enjoy using it!
Chanel Allure Extrait De Gloss
My favourite buy was probably this gorgeous gilded gold Chanel lipgloss (now my second piece of Chanel after my Les Beiges purchase!)
Unlike the Guerlain, it lives up to the quality expected of a high end product. The consistency, the colour – even the wand feels luxurious. Its definitely inspired me to lean more towards Chanel next time I go high end!
Sephora Loves Lisbon.
Finally – the rocket in my pocket is this amazing little box of tricks. Folding out into 8 eyeshadows, 4 lip creams and a blush, this palette has everything I need for a quick overnight stop and it is SO CUTE AND DINKY!
When closed, it looks exactly like the Sephora shopping bag, too cute! The content are all decent quality too which is rare in novelty items. This is definitely coming in my handbag at my next overnight!
So there we go – a roundup of my Portguese Beauty Buys! Which is your favourite? Have you tried the Guerlain or Chanel lip stuff yet? And what should my next high end Chanel purchase be?! Does ANYONE remember those novelty shaped bath foam capsules?! SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Brb, i’m going to go shop Sephora online now…. International Delivery is not the same as a real UK store though – bring Sephora back!!
