Comfortable Sun Cream? New SPF Comfort Cream From La Roche-Posay Anthelios

NEW PRODUCT ALERT! It’s been a busy week at Face Value Beauty Blog HQ but there is a pot of Californian gold at the end of the rainbow because I’ve got Coachella coming up! WAHOOOOO!

I don’t know about you but I LOVE planning and packing for
holidays (unpacking is another story obvs) and one of my most important – must-have-this-sorted items has gotta be suncream. Kinda obvious I know, but the right SPF product is crucial to having a good time.

Not to be over-dramatic but the wrong kind of sun cream can seriously ruin your day. I once wore this cream which was so white and streaky, it looked like I had some sort of skin condition – and what about those really sticky-feeling sun creams which become unbearable in the heat? NAH.

The good news is that sun cream and SPF products have taken a GIANT leap forward for mankind in the last few years. Gone is the streaky, artificial smelling, sand magnet stuff of the 90s – oh yeah, and we’re past that oily spray-on stuff too! (What was I thinking, with Malibu tanning oil!!?)

Here’s the scoop then. French pharmacy favourite La Roche Posay has just launched a new SPF range which addresses the ultimate in sun cream perfection.  COMFORT.

The new SPF creams are called Comfort Cream and it’s moisturising, non sticky and what dya know? It’s super-comfortable!

The key ingredient is Baicalin (an antioxidant more often found in Chinese medicine) and the research labs at La Roche Posay have clinically proven that it helps to provide protection against the effect of UV Rays – aka see ya laaater skin ageing and skin damage!

Let’s take a look at the newbies, shall we?

Anthelios Comfort Cream £15.50

QUESTION- When is a sun cream not a sun cream? ANSWER: When it’s a comfort cream! Boom boom, classic beauty-cracker style joke… Doh.

This new Anthelios Comfort Cream is what it says on the tin! Non-sticky, non-greasy, it genuinely just feels like a face cream, but it’s packed with a powerful SPF50! Designed with drier skins in mind, it’s still surprisingly light on my combination-oily skin and doesn’t overwhelm my pores.

It’s paraben free, fragrance free and infused with La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water so should be tolerated by even sensitive skin. I put this on instead of my normal moisturising cream and it’s a decent base before makeup – not quite the same as a primer, but it’s not slippery and shiny either.

And – if you want skin protection AND a skin prettifier? Check out the other new kid on the block.

Anthelios BB Tinted Comfort Cream £15.50

The same easy-wear from the original Anthelios Comfort Cream, but with coloured pigments too – who needs sticky foundation face? This is a lightweight alternative to daily slap and still boasts the SPF50 protection.

If you wear a BB cream, this is easily your summer replacement! However if you’re like me and you want more coverage… I’d put this Tinted Comfort Cream on and dot concealer over the places where it’s needed.

Given that it’s the same price, I would personally buy the Tinted Anthelios Cream, because you can always adjust the colour and coverage by putting your own foundation over the top, or blending it out more – it looks scarily orange but it’s quite adaptable to your skintone, the more you rub it in.

What’s Coming With Me To Coachella?

Let’s cut to the chase – luggage allowance is limited, so what has made the final team roster?

The tubes of Anthelios Comfort Cream are ideally-sized to bring with you wherever you go, so you can top up your SPF protection throughout the day. No excuse not to stay protected!

The Tinted version seems reasonably smudge proof, but given the amount of white clothing I’m planning to rock, I’ll bring the clear version in case I want to put it on arms and legs.

I also loveee this La Roche Posay Eau Thermal Spray – basically, it’s posh French thermal water in a can but it’s GREAT! It’s cold and soothing so it’s great for cooling down in the Californian Desert and also soothing any burnt bits where you’ve overdone it! The fine spray is positively deliiiightful and quenches dry skin instantly – I actually keep it on my desk in the office normally!

I would normally wince at paying 8 quid for a can of water, but it really is such a treat and it should last the whole summer unless you’re washing in it – I’ve never actually finished a large can.

SkinChecker Campaign – I thought I should give a mention to La Roche-Posay’s international skin cancer awareness campaign. Skin cancer is the only type of cancer visible to the naked eye and, if diagnosed early enough, 90% of melanoma cases can be treated effectively.

The #SkinChecker campaign aims to engage and educate people on early detection of melanoma. See the SkinChecker video here.

PS. When it comes to SPF, it’s not just sun cream either – see here for my Summer Skincare: Top SPF products.
