NEW BEAUTY BUYS! My Boots Makeup Haul!

It’s been a quiet week on the blog given that I spent three days last week at a glorious hen party for my old housemate. Like most bloggers who have full-time jobs, the weekend is the key time for writing posts and taking photos in good light. However this weekend I spent most of it flying around with the other hens, or curled up under a rock feeling the consequences of cocktails the night before…

There may not have been blogging time but there was plenty of beauty time!! The brides friends from abroad were desperate to stock up on cheaper beauty buys from Boots and I graciously (with manic excitement) volunteered to be their cosmetic collecting companion!

Obviously I got a liiiiittle bit caught up in the buying frenzy so today’s post is a not-so-small haul and my first opinions on my new buys. One girl spent almost £200 that day – pretty good going!

What Did I Buy?

L’Oreal Paris Superstar Mascara £10.99 – a double ended mascara for super-sized, super-long lashes.

I say: It gives great volume, but not as much length and lift as I’d like. The only time you can get a decent result is when you repeat the whole process a couple of times, focusing on the tips but it takes forever.

Eyelash curlers are required and you also need the white base to dry first. You can get some fantastic results IF you’ve got time to really sculpt something special but I’ve had similar results with one-step mascaras in a quicker amount of time.

L’Oreal True Match Concealer Crayon £5.99 – A blendable, creamy concealer pen for on-the-go touchups.

I say:  I love the pen shape but it’s a shame that the colour range is only limited to 4, because the colour payoff and the quality is pretty decent. It’s just not an exact match for me and I’m wearing the darkest!

L’Oreal Infallible Nail Polish £7.99 – another 2-step product for high gloss gel-effect nails and infallible toughness.

I say: Truly glossy and a really plump gel-look but small chips appeared from Day 2. NOT infallible then! The gloss look lasts for ages though and I love the colour!

SEVENTEEN Gel Colour Nail Polish £3.99 – Gel-look colour for 8 days of wear.

I saySeventeen isn’t a brand I regularly use but thinking about it, they have seriously upped their game over the last 2 years and I’ve found some real winners in their collection (see here for the best CC cream!) This Gel Colour nail polish is no exception – it applies thick and glossy and looks really professional (even for me, who can’t paint straight and ALWAYS gets it outside the lines)

Wear wise, it’s relatively hard-wearing with only a few more chips than the L’Oreal Infallible Polish. It’s a quicker process than the Infallible, but after a few days the Infallible was still quite shiny and plump whereas the Seventeen Polish had lost some of it’s gloss.

I would buy the Seventeen polish if you’re wearing the polish for one or two days only. The L’Oreal Infallible Polish is better if you’re leaving the polish on for a week or so!

SEVENTEEN Perk & Paint Jumbo Eyeliner £3.99 – a highlighting & kohl eyeliner for big, badgal eyes.

I say: I bought this as I was going out-out and I forgot my makeup kit!! This is a great little transforming tool to go from day to night. It’s not a particuarly special texture or anything, but it’s great for creating some seeeerious smokey eye action.

SEVENTEEN Falsifeye Mascara HD £6.99 – a multi-layered brush which separates, lifts and volumises.
I say: The first time I applied it over other mascara, I loved it. The brush is great, above average as it separates lashes and helps lift and curl. The tip of the brush is great for volumising and also adds extra length to existing mascara.

However, starting from scratch, it takes an extra coat before you’ve got any real volume going on. So if you want a natural wide-lash look this is alright, but not if you need some instant va-va-voom. This is my official touch up mascara but not the first one I reach for in the morning!

SEVENTEEN Supreme Shine Lipstick £4.99 – a rich but lightweight lipstick with intense colour.

I say: Again, on the night I forgot my makeup, I bought this lovely purple-hued with the hope that it would look modern and edgy. It actually came out a lot more pink and girly than it looks in the bullet. Lovely and fresh but not the look I was going for.

The formulation is great though, really comfortable and easy to wear and also slightly moisturising too – not bad for a couple of quid!

Here I am wearing the Seventeen Supreme Shine and the L’Oreal Superstar Mascara (after taking about 15minutes to curl and apply a couple of coats)
